How to prepare a pallet for same-day collection

1 October 2026

A pallet booking starts with the numbers. Before a collection is confirmed, the vehicle's verified load length, width, height and payload have to be checked against what you intend to move. Sharing the right details up front is what makes a same-day pallet collection possible.

Start with the packed dimensions. Measure the pallet at its widest and tallest points once goods are shrink-wrapped and strapped, not the bare pallet base. A standard UK pallet is 1200mm x 1000mm, but the load on top often extends further, and that is the figure that determines whether it fits.

Next, confirm the total weight. This includes the pallet itself, the goods, and any packaging. Payload is the hard limit on a dedicated van, and an overweight booking is refused at the collection point, not at the quote stage, if the numbers were not checked.

Then share the loading equipment. Is there a forklift at the collection point? A tail-lift on a loading bay? Or will the driver need a pallet truck and a flat, accessible route from the goods out to the vehicle? A pallet that cannot be loaded at the collection end cannot be collected, regardless of the vehicle.

The same applies at delivery. Confirm the receiving site has the equipment to unload, the access for a van of the required size, and a named contact who will sign for the handover. Proof of delivery records that handover and closes the booking cleanly.

Finally, note the ready time and any deadline. Same-day collection depends on the driver's starting location and available capacity, so the ready time is what determines whether the collection window is achievable. Send all of this with the enquiry and the quote comes back fast.
